An Introduction to Dead Oaks

What is this Dead Oaks? you're probably asking. Well, lucky for you, I'm here to give you a quick introduction before things get kicked off! And let me tell you, big things are (hopefully) happening soon here at One [Word] at a Time...

If you've read this blog before, then you probably already know I'm a BIG fan of horror, even if I don't write it all that often. However, that's all about to change, as I've been working on a brand spankin' new, web-only writing project called, if you haven't guessed already, Dead Oaks.

The best part of all this? I want YOUR help!

The goal of Dead Oaks is simple: Each week I am going to upload a new, terrifying, spine-tingling, underwear-soiling, sleep-with-the-lights-on short story all revolving around the same town, a place where nightmare creatures live among normal people like you and me. All of these stories can fit together into an anthology, or can be read individually with no repercussions for skipping a story here and there! (To put it simply, think of it as an online version of Goosebumps.)

And where do you come in? Good question!

As Dead Oaks evolves, the second goal is to have awesome blog-readers and writers adding their own short stories to the anthology, thus creating an entire universe of terrifyingly great short stories that all fit together in some way or another! With all the talented writers I know out there (of all genres), it shouldn't be difficult to get this going and see what weird, scary, disgusting things exist inside Dead Oaks!

If you're already convinced (before I post part one of the first story later tonight), feel free to comment on this blog post or message me on Twitter or Facebook! You can also email me at christopher.waltz821@gmail.com

Dead Oaks: "A Dead Oaks Visitor"

A Dead Oaks Visitor By S.H. Mansouri “I wake up in the middle of the night.  The first thing I see is headlights sprayed against the wall. They shoot across the room, you know, like when a car passes by . . . or when someone pulls into the driveway. I’m not expecting company at this hour, I can tell you that for sure.”             “And how do you feel?” asks the woman sitting in a dark brown leather chair. She scribbles across the legal pad resting on her lap. She waits for a reply.             Marvin shuffles on the couch, burrowing deeper into a corner. He squeezes a throw pillow, pulling it up close to his bottom lip, preparing for a scene of horror. His eyes burn a hole into a throw-rug on the floor.             “I feel . . . like I’m on top of a really big roller coaster, one of those towering new ...

Dead Oaks: "Messages, Part 2"

After having been locked in an asylum and attacking his doctor, Otto is on the run--yet again--from the malevolent forces of Dead Oaks, and those closest to him (both good and evil) are out to find him. While the end of Otto's story draws closer, a series of voicemail messages reveals even more about the sinister town of Dead Oaks and how Otto may or may not be able to escape his own fate. Today’s episode, “Messages Part Two” was written by Christopher Waltz. The voice of Lenore Fischer was Cherie Sanders. The voice of Mrs. Gillespie was Debby Fey. The voice of the Librarian was Christopher Waltz. And the voice of Dr. Nate was special guest star Ryan Moore. Music in today’s episode was "Creepy," performed and recorded by Nicholas Critney and "Diabolus," courtesy of purple-planet.com. Check back in two weeks for the next short story installment of Dead Oaks, Insatiable Appetite by Sean Hodell. And for more information, check out  www.deadoakspodcast.co...
