Dead Oaks @ Indy Reads Books

YOU'RE INVITED...

Join us at Indy Reads Books for a live-recording of Dead Oaks, a new horror story podcast!

Dead Oaks is a podcast created to expand on the horror genre of writing by working with various authors to create chilling stories that people want to read and listen to. Several authors have already submitted stories to Dead Oaks from around the country, and through the podcast (and this event), readers will be able to experience stories they may not have had the opportunity to before.

This event will be a performance of Dead Oaks' very first episode, "A Knock At the Door."

This event is FREE, but please note that Indy Reads Books is a nonprofit organization and they rely on philanthropic contributions to keep their doors open and to provide high-quality, free tutoring to adults who struggle with reading and writing. Please consider making a donation to Indy Reads to support their adult literacy programs - and to keep events like these free for our great author community!

The performance begins at 7:00pm (eastern) AND it's Independent Bookstore Day, so come early or stay late to check out Indy Reads' enormous selection of new and gently used books!

Dead Oaks: "Leftover Fireworks"

Tim and Robbie think they've hit the jackpot when they wonder upon an abandoned fireworks stand shortly after the 4th of July, but what they encounter inside will make the pair wish they'd just stayed home. Today’s episode, “Leftover Fireworks,” was written by Melissa L. Webb and was narrated by Christopher Waltz. Music in today’s episode was “Creepy,” written and performed by Nicholas Critney and "Spy Story," courtesy of Purple Planet. Check back in two weeks for the season finale of Dead Oaks, “The King of the Scum.” For more information, visit  www.deadoakspodcast.com  or find us on twitter, @ deadoakspodcast .

The Door to Nowhere: Part 2

The Door to Nowhere: Part 2 By Christopher Waltz I didn’t open the door that night. I couldn’t. I wanted nothing more than to find the right key on the ring my boss had given me and fling the door open to find my son waiting for me on the other side, but in the back of my mind, I knew that wasn’t possible. My son had been dead for months, and after a few short moments of deep contemplation, I reminded myself of that. I reminded myself that there was no way I had heard Colton’s voice, because he was dead . A piece of information I should also divulge is that a week before hearing the scratching at the door and the small, scared voice saying, “Daddy?” I had started seeing a therapist. Not because I was having hard time believing Colton had died, but because I had started having thoughts of ending my own suffering. Judge all you want, but my wife had left me, I’d lost my job, and my son had been mowed down by a reckless driver while playing on the monkey bars at his eleme...

Horror Update: The Log House by Baylea Hart

A woman abandoned in a deadly forest is forced to fight for her survival... Penny does not care about other people. They are necessary only in as far as they are useful, and most are not useful at all.  Getting pregnant, the unplanned side-effect of her affair with a married man, was useful. Having a child meant that she could live in relative peace, safe from the dangers outside a house shared by hundreds. A house that includes the man ’s wife, Mary , a woman who watches Penny from the shadows. When Penny wakes on a makeshift boat careening down a river, head throbbing, she knows Mary  is responsible .  Left to the deadly forest that surrounds their home, Penny is forced to navigate her way back to her child, and  to Mary, hell-bent on revenge. But Penny is not alone in the forest. Between the thick trees, inky eyes follow her as s he moves. Their smiles growing. Penny is being hunted, and the only thing that keeps her going is the fiery hatred ...
